Hi, it’s Tyler Ford, Tucson, Arizona with eXp Realty. Today, I’m going to be talking about the top five reasons that living in Tucson is the place to be. I grew up in Tucson, left for college and came back. But these would be my top five reasons as to why anybody would want to live in Tucson.
The number one reason to live in Tucson. The number one is the cost of living. A lot of people move to Tucson, just for the cost of living. They sell home someplace else. They take the proceeds, are able to pay cash for a home here in Tucson and their expenses go way down. So I went to bestplaces.com… If you go to bestplaces.com, you can punch in where you live and then put in Tucson and it will compare the cost of living from one place to another. So I punched in a few and I compared Tucson to Orange County, California. It’s 78% less expensive to live in Tucson than Orange County, which is kind of crazy. And then I looked at Tucson versus Phoenix and Tucson is about 10% less expensive to live in compared to Phoenix. Then I looked at the cost of housing compared to Phoenix and homes here in Tucson are about 10% less expensive.
That’s about the same as the national average as well. So home affordability is less expensive here in Tucson. You can buy a lot more home for the money, and that’s a big reason why people are flooding to Arizona, just because their money goes a lot further. They can sell a house some place else, and then pay cash here in Tucson for a home. So number one reason, cost of living.
The number four reason to live in Tucson are our mountains. Tucson is a very unique place where altitude wise, we’re at about 2300 feet. And then the Catalina mountains, which is Mount Lemmon, is due North to Tucson. It goes up to about 10,000 feet.
There’s not a lot of places in the country where you can be swimming and riding your bike one day and within the same day, drive up the mountain and be skiing.
The views are incredible because we are, not necessarily in a bowl, but we’re surrounded by mountains. You’ve got the Catalina’s to the North, the Rincon’s are to the East. And it’s really easy to navigate Tucson because the streets run North and South and East and West, and they parallel kind of the mountains. So it’s really easy to navigate. The mountains put everything in perspective, but view wise really pretty.
Mount Lemmon offers a little reprieve in the summertime where you can go up to Summer Haven, about 10,000 feet and get out of the heat.
So number four, Tucson and it’s mountains, and it’s a very unique place because not many places in the country have that altitude change and the views that we do.
The number two reason to live in Tucson is our weather. The sunshine, the sunrise, the sunsets, but Tucson has more sunny days than any other place in the country, and people move here because of the weather.
But you might ask it’s hot in the summertime and you’re absolutely right. It does get a little warm in the summer, but the nice thing about the summers is Arizona doesn’t do daylight savings. So we utilize the morning hours rather than the evening hours like a lot of other states do across the country. In the morning in the summertime, it’s super nice. The temperatures are great in the morning time where you can get out. It gets light at about 4:45. So you can get out, go for a hike, a walk, a run, go ride your bike and be done with doing those types of outdoor activities before it gets warm and before most people are getting out of bed.
So number two reason is weather and sunshine, Tucson’s the place to be!
The number three reasons to live in Tucson, this one’s my favorite. I’m an avid cyclist, runner, hiker, and that is the outdoor activities in Tucson.
Tucson is a cycling paradise. Over the last 10 years, the city of Tucson and Pima County have put in, what we call the loop and it’s miles and miles of training that parallel our washes here in Tucson, that you can get onto the loop anywhere in Tucson and ride for miles without any traffic. So there’s people out cycling, running, hiking, but Google the loop and check it out.
We’ve also got Mount Lemmon, which is epic. It’s one of the top cycling rides in the country. And the nice thing about Mount Lemmon too, is in the summertime, you can get out of the heat and head up to the mountains.
So the number three reason is just the outdoor activities. There’s a lot of hiking trails, running trails and just tons of outdoor activities to do, and it’s a mecca for cyclists and triathletes.
Okay. Number five. The fifth reason that people love to Tucson, why people come here, the first thing they do, and it’s funny, anytime I talk to somebody that’s traveling to Tucson, one of the first things they do is they go out to dinner and they go to a Mexican restaurant.
We have really, really good Mexican food. We’re really close to the border. There’s a big Hispanic community here, and we’ve got tons of great Mexican restaurants and Southwest foods.
So number five is when you’re here, make sure you… We are not going to give any restaurant names because those come and go. But there’s a lot of restaurants that have been around for quite some time that are Mexican restaurants and our Mexican food is awesome. So number five, Mexican food.
So that’s it. That sums up the top five reasons to live in Tucson. And although that’s my perspective, just talking to people and the consensus is those are pretty much the top five. There’s a lot of other benefits and reasons why people come to Tucson.
