The first documented traces have beginnings as part of the original Native American settlement adjacent to the old Tumacacori Mission. This proceeds Arizona s statehood by some 300 years. The property then became part of Baca Float #3 land grant and was largely disputed in the area for years. T.T. Pendleton purchased the disputed parcel around the time Arizona became the 48th state around 1912. He introduced the famous Santa Gertrudis cattle from the King Ranch in Texas. He began to sell of parts of the ranch and several smaller ranches were formed. |\n||\n|Rancho San Cayetano was purchased by J.T Mallory, the VP of Buick Motor Division of Detroit, MI. He and his family established Rancho San Cayetano as a premier horse ranch that exists to this day. In 1928 the Mallorys began building what is now the grand hacienda style home and showcased the architecture and materials of the area. The beautiful twisted iron wood beams carved with various brands, thick adobe walls, handmade tiles add to the timeless beauty and charm amidst the abundant native cottonwoods, mesquite and elderberry that follow the Santa Cruz River. The Mallorys planted sycamore trees along the main entrance for shade and grandeur to the drive into the main home. Today, the trees tower over 100 feet in height. |\n||\n|The ranch and home have been featured in Town and Country and Arizona Highways magazines. The ranch was also the location for the filming of 1956 movie BOTTOM OF THE BOTTLE, starring Ruth Roman and Van Johnson. It was based on a novel written by a guest staying at the ranch. The ranch has provided a wonderful sanctuary for the families and guests who have called it home. |\n||\n|The Merryweather family purchased the ranch from the Mallory s in the late 1930s. It was later home to the Day family in the 1960s. Santa Gertrudis cattle operations continued. The Reeves family purchased the property in the 1970 s and occupied it for almost thirty years. Richard and Seth Thomas Reeve s grandson Christopher, also known as "Superman , spent time at his grandparents home as a younger man. The Reeves concentrated on raising registered Quarter horses. |\n||\n|The current owners bought the Ranch in 2004, and have spent years renovating the property to preserve this irreplaceable historic Arizona ranch. |\n||\n|
